Diagnosing and Treating Co-dependence

This 6-hour course focuses on a complete framework for understanding co-dependence - designed to interface directly with accepted psychiatric/psychological concepts, language, and diagnostic systems.  It presents clear diagnostic criteria and illustrates them with examples.  It also describes ways of treating co-dependence that go far beyond the approaches currently in use. 

Goals/Objectives

By participating in this Distance Learning Course, the trainee will:

  1. explore definitions of co-dependence, including competing theoretical frameworks;
  2. review diagnostic criteria for Co-dependent Personality Disorder;
  3. examine clinical examples and transgenerational diagrams;
  4. identify the special concerns with children and adult children of alcoholics;
  5. explore general considerations for treating co-dependence;
  6. learn about and identify the various stages of treatment for co-dependence;
  7. consider the future of diagnosis and treatment of co-dependence.

Dr. Cermak is Board Certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and holds a Certificate of Added Qualification in Addiction Psychiatry.  He is a leading expert in the field of addiction medicine, with numerous books, articles, and videos on the topics of co-dependency and adult children of alcoholics.  He is currently in the private practice of psychiatry and addiction psychiatric at the Genesis Psychotherapy Center in San Francisco, California.
